Long drabble: Iori and Armadimon
Finished the initial Haruka translation this morning. Meant to type it up. Things were crazy instead. But at least I have a drabble!

[info]six_crazy_guys's drabble request from this drabble meme (SPOTS STILL OPEN).

Title: Hiding Spot
Series: Digimon Adventure 02
Characters: Iori, Armadimon, Mrs. Hida
Prompt: closet
Rating: G
Word count: 537

Iori knelt in front of his mother, face lowered in shame. She rubbed her temple, trying to think of how best to word a lecture about something as unexpected as this. “You don’t have to keep secrets from me.”

“I’m sorry.”

“Is there anything else hidden in there you were hoping I wouldn’t find?”

“That’s the only thing,” he said honestly, eyeing Armadimon’s shell under her hand.

------

Shortly before, Iori has slipped into his room as quietly as usual. “Mom’s going to find it suspicious that I’m taking more food back to my room.”

“I can’t help it!” he smiled an all-too-happy apology. “I eat more as Armadimon than I do as Upamon.”

“I should just be glad you’re not evolving any more inside my bedroom.”

It was Christmas time. That night, the two had helped battle digimon which had appeared in the real world. Because of that, he had a larger digimon partner to hide that usual. The only thing that made him especially concerned was that his claws might rip the tatami mats, or that he might knock over the desk while running under it, or he might crush him in his sleep if they both tried to share the same small bed. Perhaps he had never been thankful enough that Upamon was a conveniently sized and cuddly package.

“Iori?” came a knock, “it’s Mom.”

Iori and Armadimon shot panicked looks at each other. “The closet!” Iori whispered harshly, eye’s wide.

“I can’t open it!” Armadimon pulled backwards.

“Not that way, slide it----!!”

It was too late, but at least Iori was fast enough to catch the door before it fell flat against the floor. “Get in!”

“Iori? Is everything alright?” she opened the door and peeked in. There, she found her son barely keeping the door supported with his back. “Did the closet door break!?”

“Um,” he replied, “…yes.” He was smart enough not to tell lies, and had enough common sense not to lie while the evidence was apparent. Still, he was starting to fear that the truth wouldn’t necessarily be helpful either.

“Don’t tell me your sweaters don’t fit.”

“Phew!” a hushed voice grunted behind him. “You sure do have enough of them, that’s for sure!”

“Well, that can’t be helped, it’s winter so we had to bring them out,” he replied in a low voice, but his mother picked up on it.

“I know, and the thicker bedding isn’t any easier to store, either,” she stepped towards him to help him get the door off his back.

“It’s alright, Mom! I can fix it!”

“I’m afraid I haven’t taught you proper folding skills, my son.”

The door was taken. Contents spilled out from the closet. Iori grimaced as he heard a thud and a gasp from his mother asking what in the world something was. “I’m sorry!” he shouted back. “I didn’t want you to know!”

“Is that a…” she sounded befuddled, “Is that what you were always doing after school?”

“Yes. I’m sorry.”

She sighed, and curiously touched Armadimon, who had rolled up into a ball to hide himself. “I’ve never seen a soccer ball like this before.”

Armadimon inwardly sighed and hoped it wouldn’t be a long lecture.

I'm ashamed to say that I had practically forgotten about the meme thingie (I had a weird week 'k?), but this, OMG THIS!

"conveniently sized and cuddly package." is made of total win.

I was a bit confused by the part about the closet door (at first I thought Iori was trying to keep his mother out of the room <_<), but the ending totally made up for it. I would never have considered using Armadimon's balling ability for camouflage XD

Glad you liked it! I haven't written Digimon or drabbles in a while so it felt choppy to me, but it was fun. Poor Armadimon... XD
